Cinnamon not only adds a warm flavour and aroma to both sweet and savoury dishes, it also adds a ton of health benefits – and a little can go a long way! It contains antioxidants and is often used in Eastern medicine as an anti-viral, anti-bacterial and anti-inflammatory aid. Cinnamon, oats and No Yolking™ – 100 % Egg White Protein Powder work together in this recipe to keep blood sugar levels balanced and keep you feeling satisfied all morning.

Ingredients:
1 tbsp (15 mL) Muskoka Mornings® No Yolking™ – 100 % Egg White Protein Powder
1 cup (250 mL) unsweetened non-dairy milk, such as almond, soy or oat milk
3/4 tsp (4 mL) ground cinnamon (approx.)
1/4 tsp (1 mL) salt
1/2 cup (125 mL) old-fashioned large flake rolled oats (certified Gluten-Free)
1/2 cup (125 mL) finely chopped apple
2 tbsp (30 mL) chopped toasted walnuts (optional)
Real Canadian maple syrup

Instructions:

  1. Whisk egg white powder with 2 tbsp (30 mL) water until smooth; set aside. 
  2. Whisk milk, cinnamon and salt in a medium saucepan set over high heat; bring to a boil. Stir in oats and apple; reduce heat to low. Simmer, stirring occasionally, for 5 to 7 minutes or until tender. Remove from heat. 
  3. Stir some of the hot oatmeal into the egg white; stir into the remaining oatmeal until well combined. Spoon into a serving dish. Sprinkle with walnuts (if using), more chopped apples and additional cinnamon. Drizzle maple syrup over top to sweeten to taste. 

Tip: Apples can be substituted with ripe pears, blueberries or apricots.
